Plant Your Roots, Picking Your Home Location

While the number of bedrooms and the size of the backyard are both important when searching for a home, location shouldn't be overlooked.  Here are a few things to keep in mind to help you discover the perfect location.

Property Taxes

Property taxes play a large role in a monthly budget. While you have little control over the mandated costs, it’s best to take a look at the tax history before you tour a home.

Neighborhood

Whether it’s roaring nightlife or public transportation that appeals to you, scoping out what a neighborhood offers will make you happier in the long run!

School District

At first glance, a school district might not seem like an important factor.  However, regardless of your age, a highly rated school district can drastically impact the value of your home, for better or for worse.

Crime Rate

The safety of your neighborhood impacts everything from your happiness and security to your home's resale value. If you’re from out of town, there are numerous online tools that shed light on crime rates.  

Transportation

If you move somewhere where your commute is over an hour, look for public transportation or highway access to help get you to where you are going easier.

Geography

The most obvious component, your home's physical location, can have a huge impact on how you live. What type of climate do you like? The landscape and environmental changes may impact you down the line.
